Leslie Kolodziejski

Leslie A. Kolodziejski is Professor of Electrical Engineering in the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). Kolodziejski has served as Graduate Officer of EECS since 2010, overseeing graduate admissions and the doctoral graduate program, is Chair of the Committee on Graduate Students as well as the EECS Fellowship Committee. In addition, she serves EECS as Equity Officer and co-chairs the EECS Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Kolodziejski mentors and supports the EECS graduate student body from matriculation until graduation, and has been awarded the Capers and Marion McDonald Award for Excellence in Mentoring and Advising, the MIT Frank E. Perkins Award for Excellence in Graduate Advising, and the EECS Seth Teller Award for Excellence, Inclusion and Diversity. She is the principal investigator of MIT’s University Center for Exemplary Mentoring funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Kolodziejski has served on a number of Institute Committees, most recently chairing the Presidential Committee on Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response. She also served MIT as Associate Chair of the Faculty from 2015 to 2017.

Kolodziejski completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in materials science and her PhD in electrical engineering at Purdue University, where she remained as Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering until joining the faculty at MIT in 1988. Kolodziejski’s research involved the design, fabrication and testing of photonic and optoelectronic devices and the integration of active photonic materials with CMOS electronics. She is the founder of the Nano-precision Deposition Laboratory and PI of the Integrated Photonic Devices and Materials Group, and has received the Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research, and is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America.
